Interim Assistant Director, Training Director

I certainly integrate a variety of approaches into my theoretical orientation; however, I primarily utilize the interpersonal process, while working within a multicultural framework, to deepen the experience of therapy and promote change.  I conceptualize clients’ concerns from an interpersonal perspective and find it very important to understand their worldview and cultural identities.  To me, our early experiences in life and relationships with others impact how we view the world and our relations with other people.  I believe that a safe, supportive and caring therapeutic relationship is an integral part of the change process.  It’s an honor and privilege to work with clients during, what might be, some of their most difficult moments in life, and I strive to promote encouragement and empowerment in their lives.

Providing supervision is one of my favorite and most rewarding aspects of being in this field.  In ways, my supervision style is very similar to my work with clients, which begins with a safe and trusting environment.  I seek to create a supervisory relationship that is collaborative and supportive so that supervisees feel like they’re able to take risks and challenge themselves.  I utilize a developmental model with my supervisees and meet people where they’re at in terms of their professional and clinical development.  Additionally, I work within an interpersonal process and multicultural framework.  I aim to promote supervisees holistic growth and will spend time discussing professional development and self-care.  I was fortunate enough to have wonderful supervisors and mentors and I strive to be the same with my supervisees.

I consider myself to be a generalist and enjoy working with a variety of issues.  I am most passionate about working with survivors of sexual assault and interpersonal violence, in addition to other types of trauma, family of origin concerns, relationship issues, LGBTQ concerns, and cultural and diversity concerns.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I am an avid sports fan, especially football.  I love to bake goodies and decorate cakes, which I began during graduate school, and consider it to be a “stress reliever.”  Other interests include traveling to new places with my partner, dancing, taking pictures, and laughing until my stomach hurts.
