Post-Doctoral Fellowship
The postdoctoral fellowship at the Student Counseling Services involves working with a dynamic team of clinicians, serving a diverse student body. The Student Counseling Service houses an APA-accredited Doctoral Internship Program, Practicum Program, Career Exploration Service, a Mind/Body Center, and a thriving Group Therapy program. The postdoctoral fellowship year focuses on the integration of clinical and professional skills in a supervised environment in preparation for licensure and professional work. This is a 12-month, 2000-hour, full-time position with a preferred start date at the beginning of August.
This position affords the Postdoc the opportunity to work in a dynamic university counseling center. Under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, the Postdoc will provide individual, couples, and group therapy from a brief therapy model, conduct intake evaluations, crisis assessment and intervention, and provide outreach programs and consultation to the campus community. There may also be opportunities for supervision of Ph.D. students from a doctoral program in counseling psychology and to pursue concentration areas (for a semester or for the year). The Postdoc will attend regularly scheduled team meetings for case disposition and peer supervision as well as weekly staff meetings. The Postdoc will receive a minimum of two hours of face-to-face weekly individual supervision from a licensed psychologist in accordance with Iowa state licensure requirements for postdoctoral hours. The Postdoc will also be able to participate in a limited number of training seminars, contingent upon prior training experiences and agency needs. Additional training experiences during the Postdoctoral Fellowship are negotiable with the SCS Training Director.
Qualifications
Candidates must have completed the requirements for a doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology and an APA-accredited doctoral internship by the position start date. Candidates should be knowledgeable of college student development, interested in working with a diverse university population, and experienced with crisis assessment and intervention. All offers of employment, oral and written, are contingent upon the university's verification of credentials and other information required by federal and state law, ISU policies/procedures, official transcripts, and the successful completion of a background check.
Salary Range
The salary is $48,000 for the 12-month appointment. University benefits include health and dental insurance, 24 vacation and 18 sick days, 5 days of professional leave, and professional development funds. The Postdoc will work alongside senior staff and will have their own furnished counseling office that is equipped with a computer, phone, and video system.
